Sailing from Lefkada
Sailing South from Lefkada: Attractions of the Ionian Sea
Lefkada is one of the best starting points for sailing adventures in Greece. Connected to the mainland by a floating bridge, it provides convenient access to marinas and well-developed facilities for yachts. It is the perfect place to begin a sailing trip south from Lefkada, towards the picturesque islands of the Ionian Sea. This region is one of the most beautiful destinations for sailing in Greece, captivating visitors with its tranquillity, lush greenery, charming bays and beaches accessible only from the sea.
Below, you will find a selection of attractions and places worth visiting during a sailing trip from Lefkada around the Ionian Islands. However, we do not provide a fixed daily itinerary, as sailing plans largely depend on weather conditions. It is therefore best to remain flexible and adapt the route to the crew’s abilities and preferences.
Lefkada and the Surrounding Area
On Lefkada itself, it is worth visiting one of the most famous beaches in Greece: Porto Katsiki. White cliffs descending steeply into the turquoise waters create a breathtaking landscape. The beach can be reached via steps from the land, but the view from the deck of a yacht is even more spectacular.
On the eastern coast of Lefkada, you will find the towns of Nidri and Sivota. Their sheltered bays offer excellent facilities for sailors and are perfect places to stop and enjoy dinner at a waterfront taverna.
Meganisi
An island located just off the coast of Lefkada. Spartochori Bay is well worth a visit, with its charming village perched on the hillside. Along the way, you can anchor in small coves with turquoise waters, perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

Atokos: The Island of Pigs
Near Meganisi and Kastos lies the uninhabited island of Atokos, famous for its secluded beach, where you may occasionally encounter… pigs swimming in the sea. It is one of the most unusual places along the route, while the crystal-clear waters and remote atmosphere make it truly unforgettable.
Kalamos and Kastos
Both islands offer peace and a secluded atmosphere. Kalamos is a mountainous island with a picturesque harbour and a relaxed pace of life. Kastos, in turn, charms visitors with its small beaches and friendly, authentic atmosphere. These islands are perfect for relaxing away from the crowds.
Ithaka
The homeland of Odysseus is rich in charm and history. In the harbour of Vathi, you can experience the atmosphere of traditional Greece, while the village of Kioni is famous for its distinctive windmills along the shoreline. It is also an excellent base for discovering the island’s lesser-known beaches and viewpoints.
However, Ithaca is captivating not only for its landscapes. It is also a wonderful place to experience authentic Greek cuisine. One address particularly worth visiting is Nikos Tavern. It is a family-run taverna in the truest sense of the word: simple, welcoming and filled with an authentic Greek atmosphere. As you sit at your table, the aromas of grilled fish, olive oil and fresh herbs fill the air. You will not find excessive elegance here, but you will experience the atmosphere of a place that lives in harmony with the rhythm of the island.

Kefalonia
The largest of the Ionian Islands delights visitors with its diversity:
Fiskardo – a colourful town in the north, popular with sailors and visitors from around the world.
Assos – a picturesque village surrounded by lush green hills and turquoise waters. It is the perfect place for a stroll through its narrow streets.
Myrtos Beach – one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, surrounded by steep cliffs and the deep blue sea. The view from above is breathtaking.
Melissani Cave – a remarkable underground lake that can be explored by boat. At midday, when sunlight streams through an opening in the cave roof, the water glows with an intense azure light.
